This is the story of my '64 Vespa 150 - how it became mine and how it has given me a new vespatude. I'll be recording the neat places I visit, the different things I do to make the Vespa my own, and - oh yeah - those reactions I get from both friends and strangers.

I now have cables
After much delay, I now have the cable sets that I need. Now I just need time to replace them. Of course, that means I am going to have to pull the tank and headset. It is going to be a pain, but it is also going to be worth it.

I hope I can get to it Saturday. Life is pretty hectic right now. There isn't a lot of leisure time at the moment. However, the weather is wonderful and the scooter calls!
Comments:

Why would you need to pull the tank to replace the clutch cable. Perhaps I misunderstood your last post, but I've always replaced clutch cables by removing the headset lever and speedo, removing the inner, running a 12-foot inner cable with a pinchbolt on one end through the new outer and the old outer, and then pulling the old outer out (and the new outer in) in one action. Then you can reposition the outer in the headset and thread in the new inner. Should take about 10 minutes total.

Hey Jon,

I hope that you get a chance to replace your cables.

I had to replace the rear wheel on my little Vespa... It still had the original tyres on it, the back one eventualy perished.

Here's a picture of my Vespa on the campus of one of the Universities I teach at:

been awhile since an update, what happened?

Hey Jonathan,

You must be pretty busy at the moment! I hope you've had a chance to fix your cables.

I look forward to an update when you get a chance.

Dion

A blessed Christmas Jonathan!

I hope that the new year brings you joy, peace, and more time to ride your lovely Vespa!

I have just put new track shoes on my PX200. My VLB 150 Sprint (the old girl from 1968) is now not only in need of some bodyword, but something has gone wrong in the engine. I think that I may have a blockage in the fuel line. It takes ages to start (only starting with a LOOOONG push), then runs for a few minutes before cutting out. At first I thought it may be the spark plug, so I replaced it. I also cleaned out the Carb, but neither has made a difference. As soon as I have some time I need to figure out how check the fuel line and do so. Oh, and my speedo also stopped working on the VLB.... So, all in all, the PX is running great, the VLB (which is my favourite) is not doing so well.

Best regards for Christmas and the new year,

Dion

Hi Jonathan,

I'm not sure if you're still updating your site, or checking mail that comes from it.

However, take a look at my Flickr photoset and you'll see some pictures of my old VLB that has been resprayed.

She doesn't look quite as classic as your Vespa, but she sure looks great!

I hope you're doing OK, and that it's just hard work, and nothing more serious, that's keeping you from updating your site.

Regards,

Dion

I was hoping to get some insight about restored vintage vespas from indonesia. I was told they are not really 'vespas' but knockoffs, not authentic. I have a 1962 and a 1964 that were restored in Bali and they look and drive great. Any help would be appreciated. I want to sell one of them, but do not want to mis-represent what I am selling.

Michael

Nice Vespa! congrats!

Check out my new blog: http://vespaing.blogspot.com
All about vespas!

I just found this blog, and have enjoyed reading it. It's been quite awhile since it's been updated, so I'm wondering if this is it?

Hey are you in Greenville South Carolina?

My name is Richard and I'm working on a vintage scooter. My first actually and I am noticing some of the same exact issues that you had before.

Hello,

Sorry to disturb you but I believe that I can recognize a Vespa 99 vehicule on your photos. Is it true ?

Do you have bought a vespa at this indenosian workshop ?

If yes, I would be really happy if I could have your opinion on their vehicules.
I'm actually planning to buy one ...

I would really appreciate if you could answer to me.

Sorry for my bad level in English. I hope you will understand me ...

Regards,

Laurent (from Belgium)

Laurant,

Frankly, I would not purchase your Vespa from Indonesia. I'm not sure you are communicating with the same group I did, but I simply don't trust the original quality of these bikes.
